The weekend is here, and it seemed to come by rather fast at times and rather slow at others. But it has arrived nonetheless. So I'm sitting outside the residence hall with a nice Belgian beer talking to my French friend Anthony and just relaxing. Today we got to visit the Technopol in Metz, which has lots of international companies that specialize in probably what you expected, technology. Although, it was very nice because we met the General Manager of the complex who gave us a two hour speech on how it was founded and why. Main reason for putting it in Metz was because of its central location to the rest of Europe and at the time Paris had over 95% of the technology research in the area. Then we had class for two hours with Professor Chapman and learned more about the geography of Europe and the UK.
Yesterday, the class went on a field trip to Verdun, which was a site during WWI that involved just the French and the Germans. 300 straight days of fighting following the first day of bombing from the Germans. Quite possibly the most bloody site during WWI, and because of it there were two big memorial sites for them (pictures yet to come). The weather was quite fitting for the visit, gloomy, dark, and rainy. So I guess you can say it added to the experience of visiting this depressing site. What you might know is that many Israelites fought in the war, and to honor them there was a few memorial sites in Hebrew, something I didn't know prior to yesterday.
A lot to look forward to this weekend, including the month long event of the Euro Cup! Also planned for this weekend is a trip to Amneville, France which is situated about 15 minutes north of Metz, to visit the renowned zoo and maybe partake in some gambling. Other than that, Charlotte might be coming in next week which I am very much looking forward to and some pub hopping this weekend to regarde the Euro Cup. Updates should be more frequent this weekend since about 15 Americans went to Amsterdam.
Well hope all is well in the States.
Marc.
